TRIBUTE TO ATHOS BULCAO – 18K YELLOW GOLD, PINK TOURMALINE AND DIAMONDS EARRINGS
On conceiving this jewel, the Artist seized upon the geometric and architectural view that dominated the work of the architect Oscar Niemeyer and the visual artist Athos Bulcao and his geometric panels, when building Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, by making an earring consisting of angled straight lines and deconstructing it at the end to give the visual sensation of a disordered pile of bricks.
The jewel’s informal design is in marked contrast to the refined nature of the materials used: oval and rectangular PINK TOURMALINES, WHITE brilliant cut DIAMONDS and 18K YELLOW GOLD.
The Artist was inspired by the most ancient Egyptian legend that says that the TOURMALINE passed through a rainbow on its long journey to the center of the Earth and informally took on its colors, without any authorization or following any rules. Although she uses just one of its shades, she also wanted to informally multiply them in its appearance by presenting this amazing gemstone in several weird positions, often balancing it in an apparently fragile manner to end up with a jewel of unequalled conception and result.
